The Last Post of the Semester: Reflection on Technology Integration in English Teaching

Greetings to everyone. This is not a farewell post, it is a reflection post. I will talk about what this course has contributed to me throughout the semester. Before this course, I thought the place of technology in English teaching was limited to slides and games. However, with the content of the course and the tasks given to us, I realized that this was never the case. For example, it would be a much more attractive and effective teaching technique if a grammar topic was presented using infographics instead of limiting it to a simple slide. Also, I had assumed that the communication skills course would only involve speaking exercises, but I was wrong. Speaking can take many forms, including podcasts and digital stories.

Each task in this course required technological and (in a few assignments) collaborative skills and could be integrated into a specific English lesson. The artificial intelligence and infographic assignments were a clear example of this, I learned a lot even while preparing them. The assignments significantly enriched both the creator and the examiner. Podcasts, digital stories, and collaborative writing assignments were more fun and can be integrated into the course as post-learning reinforcement activities rather than during the learning process. In addition, sharing our reflections about the assignment through our blogs after each assignment helped us to refresh the process in our minds and bring to light what they contributed to us. It was especially special that we did this thanks to 'blogs', a tool that requires technological integration.

I liked the podcast task the most and the infographic task the least because the podcast process and content were much more enjoyable. The infographic did not attract me as it was more informative.

Although I find the course process to be quite adequate, perhaps the content selection of the tasks can be more diversified or they can be shaped by student preference. Other than that, it was a very enjoyable and productive course. I would like to thank my teacher very much for his valuable contributions and convey my respects!

I sincerely hope you enjoyed my blog. For now, bye. Have a nice holiday!
