Hello again. I am here with the last task of the term. It was the task of chatting through Magic School AI with a historical figure of our choice about a topic we were curious about. Then, we were asked to write a report about the interview and revise the report using AI feedback. I made Socrates my chatmate and satisfied my curiosity about Socratic questioning. It was an interesting experience because even though I knew that the person speaking in front of me was artificial intelligence, it really felt like Socrates had come to life. Even though we are used to the concept of AI today, I have never had a conversation with it before. However, despite this, I did not experience any difficulties in light of the instructions given. Using AI did not force me, on the contrary, it helped me access much more information than I wanted. Just write your question and click the send button! The information is coded into the artificial intelligence in such a way that I feel like I am actually hearing all the information it gives from Socrates' mouth. You can also get very useful feedback on whatever subject you want by AI. It guides you down to the smallest detail, point, even down to the comma :)
How can I integrate similar tools into my own
teaching practices?
It is now almost impossible not to use
artificial intelligence tools in educational applications. In the future, I can
use this technology to gamify activities or increase students' realism in a
subject. I may concretize a very abstract subject that is difficult to
understand with the 3D technologies of artificial intelligence. Alternatively,
similar to this task, I may urge students to strike up a discussion with the
appropriate individual so they feel as though they are getting the answers to their
questions directly from the source. However, I can say that I will not prefer
artificial intelligence in the preparation of course materials and contents,
because even though it is developed with superior intelligence, it has
deficiencies that cannot reach human intelligence. We must remember that they
may not be able to see fine details as much as we do.
Potential Benefits and Drawbacks of Using AI in
Language Learning
While artificial intelligence in language teaching reduces the speed and error rate, it can still make people get used to ease because they do not provide original creativity. Also, there is no such thing as zero chance of error. Like the human mind, they too can make mistakes. It can also pose a threat to language teachers' job opportunities. Technology and artificial intelligence enthusiasts may not need a teacher when they have this opportunity. However, we must not forget that no intelligence can yet achieve an extremely difficult task. That is, it still cannot challenge the human mind to fulfill all its functions. I don't think the need for a language teacher will ever end with man-made technology.
